I Have No Intention Of Killing Oshiomhole – Edo Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Edo state, Dr Pius Odubu, has in a statement denied allegations made by the Edo State Governor that he was trying to kill him in order to fill his office as the Governor of the State.

In the statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr Kelly Odaro, the Deputy governor maintained that the allegation leveled against him was being concocted by ill-willed persons, mischief makers and blackmailers who are bent on destroying his cordial relationship with the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

The statement read: “As a practicing Catholic I will not do anything that is unbecoming of a true Christian in the name of politics.

“God knows that I have never had any pact with any witch/native doctor to kill anyone or avenge for me and I will never condescend to that extent as long as God lives. It is against my faith.

“The Bible teaches that even when the innocent suffers and mischief makers and traducers appear to triumph by their chief blackmail, it is for God alone to avenge.

“I will, by special Grace of God, continue to disappoint the dubious expectations of those who are bent on driving a wedge between me and Oshiomhole.

“It is my nature and character to be loyal to those who God has set over me because they are my instruments.

“At times like this, blackmailers are at their best but I have decided to take solace in God who knows the hearts of men, trusting and believing as always that God will vindicate the just.

“I wish to reiterate that I have no rift with my boss who I revere and deeply appreciates,”

You are an expired politician, Ekiti Assembly tells Olowoporoku

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has described the remarks by former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Bode Olowoporoku, that the House has only one university graduate as member as not only spurious, but one that came from the mouth of an expired politician like the former Second Republic minister.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, the Assembly said Olowoporoku, despite his academic prowess, was only known for rebellion and formenting trouble.
Oluwawole, in the statement signed by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, said the former senator had been confined to the dustbin of history in the state’s political firmament and that he was only seeking relevance.
"While we are not conceding to the thoughtless statement, let us assume it is true; how can there be only one graduate in an Assembly where you have a medical doctor, two seasoned journalists, a cleric, retired top civil servants, among others.
“The beauty of democracy is that these so-called illiterates were voted into office by the people of the state who had earlier rejected people like Olowoporoku.
"The same people recently took the invasion of their offices and the detention of a colleague to the court of public opinion and they impressed all. Olowoporoku never found his voice then. He is broke and he is a spent force. Olowoporoku is a rebel and he was among those who created the political chaos in 1983 in the old Ondo State.
"Those who know his background know that his sanity is questionable. Senility has already set in for him, but we don't want to help wash his dirty linen in public. He has spent his life in rebellion.
“The Assembly members he is castigating were voted into office by the people of Ekiti State, the same people who rejected him. He is probably broke and looking for relevance as well as somebody who will grease his palms," the statement read.
The Speaker added that no amount of distraction would make supporters of Ayo Fayose to dump him, saying “he is a God’s project that no human can truncate. The authority of all elected officials, including Fayose, is from God Almighty. If Olowoporoku still wants to contest in an election at over 80 years, or he is sponsoring his son, he is welcome. We think he needs attention and he will get none.”

EFCC Arraigns NAMA MD, four others for alleged N6.9bn fraud

This is an EFCC press statement
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today, April 7, 2016 arraigned five staff of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) before Justice Kuewumi Babs of the Federal High Court Lagos on 21- count charge of conspiracy, forgery and money laundering.
The accused persons are Ibrahim Abdulsalam, managing director of the agency; Nnamdi Udoh, former managing director (still at large),Adegorite Olumuyiwa, general manager, procurement;
Agbolade Segun, general manager, finance; Clara Aliche, director finance; Joy Ayodele Adegorite, Randville Investment Limited and Multeng Travels and Tours Limited. The accused persons are alleged to have conspired and stole the sum of N6, 922,676,815 (Six Billion, Nine Hundred and Twenty Two Million, Six Hundred and Seventy Six Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifteen Naira ) from NAMA. Troubles began for the accused persons after the Commission received a petition accusing some management staff of NAMA of engaging in acts of grand corruption.

A team of Operatives were assigned to investigate the matter where it was discovered that the accused persons allegedly stole the said monies through fictitious procurement contracts, fictitious container clearing and fraudulent cash advances. One of the charge reads that: "you, Ibrahim Abdulsalam, Nnamdi Udoh (still at large) Adegorite Olumuyiwa, Agbolade Segun, Clara Aliche, Joy Ayodele Adegorite, Randville Investment Limited and Multeng Travels and Tours Limited, on or about the 19th day of August, 2013 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud conspired amongst yourselves to induce the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to deliver the sum of N2,847,523,975.00 (Two Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty Seven Million, Five Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five Naira) to Delosa Limited, Air Sea Delivery Limited and Sea Schedules Systems Limited under the pretense that the said sum represented the cost of clearing consignments belonging to the said Agency and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1 (3) of the same Act”.

When the charge was read to them, the accused persons pleaded not guilty. In view of their plea, prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked the court for a trial date and to remand the accused persons in prison custody. However counsel for the first accused person O. Oshoogun pleaded with the court to remand his client in the EFCC custody pending the hearing of his bail application.

All other defence counsel aligned themselves with Oshoogun in urging the court to remand their clients in the custody of the Commission. In his response, Oyedepo told the court that the proper place to remand accused persons was prison custody. He further added that the detention facility of the Commission was overstretched. Justice Babs upheld the submission of the prosecution and ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the matter to April 12, 2016 for hearing of bail applications.

House of Reps explain why they haven't forwarded details of the 2016 budget to Buhari

The House of Representatives has issued a statement explaining why they have not forwarded the details of the 2016 budget to President Buhari, an action that has prevented Buhari to sign the budget into law. The chairman House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin‎, in the  statement released today, said the practice of witholding the budget for a few days or weeks by the National Assembly has always been there and that due to the fact that the "padded" budget was presented to them late, they need time to scrutinize the details. The statement in part reads
“The general public should note that the MTEF and 2016 budget proposal came to NASS very late. You will also recall that a lot of dust was raised over different versions of the budget circulated in the national assembly. Further, some ministers disowned the content of the budget during defence before NASS.
Amid these inconsistencies and discrepancies, the NASS had been deeply engrossed in perfecting the anomalies, ironing out of the wrinkles and stretching the twists inherent in the 2016 appropriation bill.‎
In order for the nation to move forward and avoid stagnation of administrative processes, the tradition is that the bill is passed and forwarded to the presidency for assent, while the lawmakers continue to work on the details. There is nothing abnormal about this practice and yet nothing abnormal about a president assenting a budget before or after seeing the details. In any case, the budget details are usually sent within a week or two after passing the budget.
In view of the inconsistencies, errors, omissions and padding that characterised the 2016 Budget, it would be unpatriotic of NASS to forward the budget details without being extra-careful, meticulous and cautious in discharging its duties. This is to ensure we do not make same mistake that the executive made.
The Appropriation committee needs to scrutinize the original proposal sent by the president vis-à-vis the reports of various Standing Committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate to arrive at a clean copy of the budget details. This will in no way affect any envelop already passed or the aggregate expenditure.
The NASS holds the President in high esteem and will continue to support him. There were several instances where we demonstrated our support to the present administrations in the past.
At the risk of sounding immodest, the NASS approved the President’s Special Advisers without hitch, approved ministerial nominees without rancour, approved Supplementary Budget without delay and displayed a rare show of patriotism in the receipt and passage of the 2016 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and budget.
The 2016 Budget is the most challenging budget the NASS has ever passed in its recent history. Taking into account the many controversies and omissions, particularly in NYSC, Prisons, Pensions, personnel shortfalls, among others, the budget failed in many respects to connect with the policy thrust of the government.
The NASS Appropriation Committees worked round the clock to address some of the omissions, bring up to date allocations in the budget towards the policy direction of Mr. President, particularly issues relating to security, anti-corruption and economic diversification.
Given the foregoing efforts, it is therefore unfair for accusing fingers to be pointed at NASS when the Presidency defers or delays assent to the budget. Nowhere in the world that a budget is presented to the Parliament, and expect it to be passed warts and all without subjecting it to the rigours of scrutiny, debate and painstaking processes and inputs of the parliament.
The NASS will continue to exercise its constitutional duty of appropriation to the latter. While recognising the President’s power to withhold assent, the NASS is also constitutionally required and has power to veto. But we don’t want that to happen and we don’t see this happening in this case.
It is obvious that some fifth columnists are crying wolf where there is none and are also bent on creating friction and disharmony between the NASS and the Presidency,”.

How govt plans to end fuel crisis as black market booms

Fuel queues along Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Area, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja …yesterday PHOTO: LADIDI LUCY ELUKPO.
• ‘N75m worth of productive hours wasted in fuel queues daily’
• Chamber puts MSMEs’ loss at over N30 billion
As the nation looks up to next week to end the perennial fuel scarcity, as promised by the Federal Government, indications have emerged that the International Oil Companies (IOC) are set to support the downstream sector through a way of foreign exchange ( forex) provision.
The IOCs are major upstream oil and gas operators. But reports showed that they are now indicating interest in the downstream fuel supply crisis and are ready to help the marketers secure forex for fuel importation.
The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Garbadeen Muhammed, who also confirmed this development said, the major international upstream oil companies had indicated their willingness to support major oil marketing companies with some of the required forex.
According to him, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu is also working with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on innovative ways of closing the gaps in accessing foreign exchange.
He appealed to Nigerians to support the government to eradicate the fuel queues.
Meanwhile, the depot operators as at yesterday were still groaning under fuel shortages, as a few of them with products have indiscriminately increased the price to about N130 per litre.
Mohammed said: “We are vigorously pursuing an improved model for ‘crude oil for refined product’ exchange (the Direct Sale – Direct Purchase arrangement) which eliminates inefficiencies with an attendant cost-saving for the nation to the tune of about $1 billion. This will guarantee sustainable product supply to the nation.”
Rolling out the measures to be taken in the medium term, he said the NNPC was working on sustainable strategies to permanently address the issues and challenges facing the midstream and downstream sectors, adding that the ongoing rehabilitation programme would bring the refineries up to 70 per cent capacity utilisation within the next eight months.
“As a result of the challenges that major oil marketers face in contributing their supply quota due to constraint in accessing foreign exchange and outstanding subsidy obligations, NNPC is burdened with the obligation to guarantee almost 100 per cent in the national supply, since the domestic crude oil supply (445,000 bbls/d) can only guarantee about 50 per cent of the 45 million litres national requirement for petrol; we have secured presidential approval to take additional crude oil volume to guarantee national supply of petrol,” he said.
Besides, if commensurate financial value were to be placed on hours spent in searching for fuel and in traffic in Nigeria, especially Lagos, citizens could be losing about N75 million worth of productive hours queuing for petrol daily.
At an average of N60,000 monthly salary for a level-12 worker in the civil service, translating to N250 per hour and N1,000 daily for at least four hours spent in fuel queues in the last few weeks, The Guardian’s analysis shows that more man- hours may have been wasted in search for fuel, amidst poor electricity supply.
Already, latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show that Nigeria’s labour force population is about 75 million, reflecting the number of people with taxable income who lose at least four hours in search for fuel, even as people depend heavily on black marketers.
Besides, while the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) estimates that small business holdings in the country has lost N30 billion due to the non-availability of petroleum products across the country, other sector operators believe the loss could be more if the welfare effect were evaluated, considering the parlous state of electricity supply with fuel scarcity.
According to the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), the lingering electricity and fuel crisis have affected businesses terribly as the cost of logistics, both for personnel and raw materials has risen while consumer prices may equally be affected.
MAN President, Dr. Frank Jacobs, notes that the cost of doing business in the country has become astronomical for many manufacturers as the lingering fuel crisis may further hit the bottom-line of businesses operating in the country.
Director-General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Muda Yusuf adds that there has been a high loss of productive hours due to personnel going to queue for fuel while the queues have equally hindered the flow of traffic in many areas.
“The problem at hand goes beyond the loss of man-hours but also the welfare effect if one considers the fact that there is no electricity and the fuel to service generating sets is equally unavailable. Logistics have been hindered, people spend more time in queues, and energy prices have equally gone up”, he added.
On its part, ACCI asserts that the continuous importation of the product portrays the country in bad light and it shows that the country is not capable of managing its resources.
The president of the chamber, Tony Ejinkeonye said in Abuja that Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) and its managers seemed to be at the crossroad on how to solve the lingering challenges of shortage of the product and may have given up as a result of its comments and body language.
He said businesses and the economy as a whole were being battered from all sides amid the challenges of electricity supply, infrastructure deficits in all facets, insecurity and a host of others.
His words: “The importation of products portrays our country in bad light. It shows us up as an incompetent manager of our resources. NNPC from the comments of its officials may have given up. We may seriously need to divest our refineries from everything that will not make them work. Businesses and our economy are being battered from all sides. Forex, energy supply, infrastructure, security concerns. The list is endless.
“Businesses especially MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises ) have lost over N30 billion through inadequate supply of petroleum products. Labour productivity is low as employees have stayed off work since the hike of fares by providers and when they come, they are always late.
“NNPC banned the use of kegs to buy petrol without considering that most households and small businesses run on petrol generating sets. This has forced them to close shops. Buying with kegs is not the cause of scarcity but inadequate supply of products. NNPC over the years has not proffered any meaningful solution. They are fond of treating symptoms instead of addressing the issue.’’
He said the Federal Government should as a matter of urgency find a lasting solution to the problem so that MSMEs which are the drivers of the economy could bounce back, adding that petroleum problems should not be allowed to be added to the numerous challenges the sector is already faced with.
Meanwhile, the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has asked the Federal Government to take a cue from the telecoms sector and deregulate the oil sector.
In an interview with The Guardian, the President of ATCON, Lanre Ajayi, said the fuel scarcity was affecting members of the association.

God is angry with Buhari - Fayose

God is angry with Buhari - Fayose

The tug of war between Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and President Buhari continues with the Governor claiming that the President is technically unfit to better the lot of Nigerians. In an interview in Abuja, he spoke about a wide variety of topics including the National Economic Council retreat which he’d earlier called a mere ‘jamboree’.

Here are excerpts of the interview:

On the National Economic Council, NEC, retreat in Abuja

We all know where the problem is, where the problem is coming from. The reality is that we need a change of attitude. That’s what we need. No matter what you say, the ministers, the governors, some are two-term  governors, some are leaders of this country before, like Chief Audu Ogbeh, they know where the problem lies and what they need to do to tackle it.

The attitude of everybody must change; from the President to the last man in government and beyond government. If you want to dispense justice, for instance, you must dispense it equally. If you want to fight corruption, you must fight it equitably. If we are talking about restructuring our economy,  the economy is not all about itself. There are other parameters. If you oppress me, I will not be favourably disposed to the programmes you are offering me.

But the moment the president  of the country becomes everybody’s father, his agenda and the agenda for the nation will be pushed  by all parties and stakeholders. So we have had a lot of these things. We have been through such  a gathering (economic retreat)  but, at the end of the day, will it not be the same old rhetorics, same strategies? Is it not a  diversionary move to make Nigerians think you are working on the economy? Meanwhile, this is a government that  was elected almost  one year ago, but which  doesn’t know what it is doing, doesn’t  know what  it wants, doesn’t know why it  got there; maybe it  wanted power  but  not to put Nigeria on the path of prosperity. So, it is a good idea  that we should talk about the economy of the country, but I think the driver should know the direction more than the passengers. But  he doesn’t know; he is just fishing. He is fishing for ideas  on how to run Nigeria.

With  due respect, people may not like the way I am saying it right now, but they have to come to terms with reality. You can’t grow more than your pastor. You can’t grow more than your MD under the same roof. He is limited by old age. He is limited by academic competence and he is limited by exposure. If you can’t grow more than your pastor, what  do you offer? Meanwhile,  everybody has to look up to the President.

So with his  APC family, they ought to have had an economic team, economic master plan for Nigeria. They would have set the direction. There are indicators of an economy. Indicators of an economy will tell you what will happen next year; will tell you that next year, there will be drop in rain for farming and that we must build irrigation. It will tell you, there are going to be issues that could make the economy get gloomy. That is why we have technology. That is why we have advanced information. That is why you have specialists.

The President is the President. He is not the Minister for Finance. He is not the technical adviser. I was reading in the papers where someone said that the ministers of the President are incompetent or something like that, but I am not condemning them. I am only saying that the President himself had two months before being sworn-in. Since he came, the dollar has  risen  from 200 Naira to almost 400 Naira. I don’t blame him for the drop in oil price, but the fact  is that I blame him for not being proactive in finding a solution to those challenges. Second, we should ask the President why Nigerians are suffering under him more than ever before.

Look at  electricity tariff. In most cases, people  will never get supply of electricity; they get it  maybe once a month. Yet, they get what we call estimated bills. The people are so disenchanted. The people are not happy. There was this international body that said findings showed that Nigerians are unhappy more  than ever before. Something must be causing all that.

If you look at that last  six  elections across  the federation, APC  has not won  and it shows people are saying, ‘Have we not missed  the road?’ The fact remains that when  a  disease catches up with you, you will not know until  it is about terminating your life. If you look at the violence greeting our elections now, it will amaze you, it will give you concern. Even the worst of  (former President) Jonathan, abuse him, say what you want, but he promised there will be free and fair elections and he delivered, even against himself. If this was  the kind of violence that greeted Buhari’s election, would he ever be President? No! Nigerians don’t know party, they know their stomach. They know their business. They know their economy. Let’s look back and imagine that so many middle-class businesses are gone.

Look at me with  a daughter abroad and somebody says my daughter can’t get maintenance money in dollars  anymore. The education of my children has come to a halt after building such a child to year three  in the university. This is an indicator of incompetence, a clueless administration. Sometimes,  APC people  might have clues but the President doesn’t have. He has no clue. You see these things, people are afraid to say it.

On whether his criticisms of the President are personal

Everything I have said  is backed by facts and figures. It is not about being critical of this administration. I didn’t start today. I started  before the 2015  elections. I told Nigerians not to vote for him (Buhari).

I was a young man of 24, 25 years when Buhari was the Head of State of this country. The Yoruba man will say, ‘If you have taken a medicine that works for you, please give me’. We took a medicine which kills. Anybody that is 40 years old today that voted for Buhari doesn’t know Buhari because, from 1984 to date, it will be 32 years. So, a guy of  eight  years won’t say he knows Buhari clearly. So, add that eight  years to 32 years, that is 40 years, they voted for a man they never knew. So, if you remove people from the age bracket of 18 – 40 and remove the votes from Buhari’s votes, you will  know that he couldn’t have won the election. I am not critical of anybody. When APC is talking about me, they say whatever they want to say but I defeated them in all elections even when they call it militarization, even when they say Fayose is controversial; in every battle I will win them. Even when you have overtaken, like after my impeachment, by His grace, they were overtaken again and lambasted by the Supreme Court. There is a difference between a vendetta and the reality on the ground. If I was incompetent, Ekiti people will not vote for me eight years after.

On PDP politics, on allegations that he was responsible for the Chairman of the PDP’s appointment and whether he’s happy with what he’s seen so far

I didn’t work for Sheriff like that. I worked for the truth. I worked for someone I believe has what it takes to lead our party.

Party politics is not book politics. Party politics is being realistic. Life in itself is about being realistic. Sheriff and myself were not close  friends and we were not enemies either. We didn’t see often. We were not in and out with each other. We have never been in the same political party, but everybody that came, we engaged them one after the other.

Because of the presentation of Aliyu Amodu Sheriff,  I supported him. That is the truth. There was a particular question they asked him; ‘if the party needs N5 million before the governors can be reached, would you still be able to support it? If there is a meeting in Lagos or somewhere else and there is no commercial flight and you have to get there, would you have to call the governors saying, please, borrow me your aircraft or send me some money to  get one’.

Secondly, they asked him, ‘This issue of Boko Haram you are being linked  with, don’t you think it is going to be against your person in the public domain’ and he said, ‘How can a man be linked to Boko Haram and still be walking around, never charged to any court in Nigeria? And, above all in a way, I am an in-law to Mr. President. He is fighting Boko Haram now. Will he ask himself to marry a Boko Haram person or a relative to Boko Haram?’ These are logical things and I was convinced in my heart and I said, ‘ I will stand by you’ and my yes is my yes and my no is no. If I am with you I am with you and if I have issues against you, I will go there and tell you to your face.  And the gentleman has just been there for a few weeks;  so what would anybody have done in a party in this period? We have to be realistic. He needs time and, even in his three months, he can only do very little, but it is better than a man who has no clue at all.

On why people were against him when Nominated

Why were people against me when I wanted to be governor of Ekiti State?  Because they knew I will defeat them. When you see the  lion, you  run. Why are people against the lion?  Why don’t they keep lions in their houses?   Because the lion is the king. They know what you  represent. They know who you are. Remember when I wanted to do my primary, there was this consensus idea. About 26 aspirants said they wanted consensus, ‘take one of us’ and I said ‘I want to face all of you’. The Bible says the righteous are as bold as a lion. The whole  of the kingdom at that time and all the chiefs of the clans were against Daniel. Does it mean Daniel was wrong? They plotted against Jesus Christ, does it mean Jesus Christ was wrong? That is not a measure of people being against you. When people are against me, I get things done better. It makes things  easy for me. It  showcases  me and makes the whole world  know Fayose is there. Our style can’t be the same.

On the speculation that the Chairman wants to elongate his tenure

I don’t know what you mean by elongation. There are constitutional provisions that say your tenure starts from this period to that period, and there is a body that  ratifies that which is the NEC and you can’t act outside of NEC’s provisions. But I don’t want to be misquoted.  As at today, except there is a zoning, nobody can say you can’t contest an election.

As at today and until an agreeable zoning formula has been reached, you can’t come out and say someone can’t contest. I don’t want to be misquoted. Quote it the way I have said it. What Buruji said and I take exception and I am glad he said it is his opinion? One, there is nobody that anything good will be coming to his zone, if truly he is a leader from that zone, that will be opposed to such a thing. So far, we haven’t zoned it and if we haven’t zoned, the constitution doesn’t bar people from contesting that office. If anybody wants to contest, he can contest, but when the party now meets, takes a position, ratified by NEC, it becomes a law that we all have to obey.

On PDP’s Chances in 2019

What chances do you have to live till tomorrow? A lot of people blabbing today, who told them they will be alive at that time? Who is telling our oppressors that they will be there by tomorrow; that it won’t be me that will be there by that time? You understand, we have seen so many things in this country.

I am the longest serving Nigerian governor. I served in Obasanjo’s administration. I served in Jonathan’s and I am serving in Buhari’s administration now. You see, I am not a small boy that anyone toys around with. You want to try me with impeachment, they have done it before. You want to try me with state of emergency, they have done it before. You want to clamp  someone in  prison, they have done it before.

I am an experienced man. I am fearless. The reason is that greater is He that is in me than he that is in them. And let me remind you, if they have another person that they will join with Buhari to get more forces, they will bow to this Force here. I am telling you the truth. Power doesn’t come from anywhere. God rules in the affairs of men.

Oppressing, bringing  and cutting people down, dropping people, taking their blood on the ground, God is angry. God isn’t happy. How can you be cutting people down? You go to Rivers and kill people, you go to Akwa Ibom and kill people, you go to Bayelsa, you kill people, incarcerate innocent people. God is angry with Buhari. You can’t continue to take the blood of the innocent. Look at my predictions for 2016 for Nigeria, everything has come to pass. This is a different ball game. He that will take me, he that will go against me must first of all defeat God.

Scared Of Saraki Becoming Acting President? Osinbajo Cancels Trip To India

Scared Of Saraki Becoming Acting President? Osinbajo Cancels Trip To India

The Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, has made a last-minute cancellation of his trip to India due to protocol blunders by the Protocol Department of the Presidency as well as an awkward realization that the embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki would have to act as President for a couple of days.

This is just as Mr Saraki is currently facing criminal charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations of corruption and false assets declaration, which he and his legal team are using all kinds of controversial maneuvers to beat.

Confirming the cancellation, a presidency official said:-

“When the President and VP are out of town, the running of the country will fall automatically into the hands of the Senate President. We did not want the awkwardness that would come with that scenario.”

It was gathered that a 27-member delegation, including the VP and two ministers, were scheduled to travel today to India for a conference.

However, the trip was shelved when the Presidency’s protocol team discovered at the last minute that President Muhammadu Buhari was also going to travel to Equatorial Guinea on Sunday for a two-day state visit that is scheduled to start on Monday, March 14.

Literally, it means if both Osinbajo and Buhari leave Nigeria, the country would stay for more than two days without its first two citizens, meaning Senate President Bukola Saraki would have to act as acting president.
