As part of advocacy to protect the female gender and young children against abuses, discriminations, violence and other violations, the Women Arise team led by Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin on Thursday took the advocacy to the Senate leadership.


The group on Thursday visited the National Assembly with the campaign to rescue the schoolgirls who were abducted by the Boko Haram terrorists at Chibok, Borno State on April 14th, 2014. 
At the visit, the Women Arise circulated her new document which is created to serve as policy guidelines for prevention and handling of cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The organization created the policy guidelines with the support of Ford Foundation to serve as policy framework in the bid to curb the rising spate of violence against women and young persons
The team was received at the National Assembly by the leaders of Nigeria's Senate. The President of Nigeria's Senate, by Dr. Bukola Saraki who led the senators promised to work with Women Arise on the advocacy to end gender abuse and other forms of violence a affecting young persons in the country. 
Thursday being the 2nd year since abduction of the Chibok Girls, the Women Arise team also increased campaign for rescue of the Chibok Girls. The senators joined the advocacy and promised that the Federal Government is increasing efforts to ensure the rescue of the abducted schoolgirls.
